Terms of Use

The rules for using Find My Car – including the limits of GPS, the parking timer and Auto-Park.

1. Scope and provider

These terms apply to the use of the Find My Car apps for iPhone, Apple Watch, Android and Wear OS, including widgets and other extensions (“the app”). The app is provided by:

These terms are available in German and English. If the two versions differ, the German version prevails. How I handle your data is explained in the Privacy Policy.

2. What Find My Car does

Find My Car lets you save where you parked, add a note, a photo and a parking timer, and get back to your car with a map, a compass and walking directions. Optional features include Auto-Park, offline maps, widgets and apps for Apple Watch and Wear OS. The features available depend on your device, operating system and purchases.

3. Location and finding your car – please read

Important: Find My Car helps you remember where you parked. It cannot guarantee that you will find your car.

  • The saved position comes from your device's location services. In car parks, tunnels, between tall buildings or with weak signal it can be off by tens or even hundreds of metres, or be missing altogether.
  • Check the saved spot on the map, and add a note or photo (for example the level and row in a car park) when it matters.
  • Data on your device can be lost, for example if you delete the app, reset your device or delete spots. Make your own backups if a spot is important to you.

4. Parking timer

The parking timer is a convenience reminder. Notifications can arrive late or not at all, for example in Focus or silent mode, when notifications are turned off, when the battery is low or when the operating system restricts the app. You remain responsible for parking fees, parking time limits and parking rules. Subject to section 11, I am not liable for parking tickets, towing or other consequences of a missed reminder.

Directions, the compass and the map are guidance only and may be inaccurate or out of date. Traffic rules, road signs and the actual situation on site always take priority. Do not use the app while driving, and pay attention to your surroundings when walking with it.

6. Auto-Park is heuristic

Auto-Park estimates from motion, Bluetooth and location data that you have parked. It can miss a parking event, save a spot that is not where your car is, or save a spot when you have not parked. Check a spot saved by Auto-Park before you rely on it.

7. Maps and services of third parties

Maps, addresses and routes come from third parties: Apple Maps on iPhone, OpenStreetMap map tiles (© OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License) for offline maps and on Android, and the Android Geocoder. I have no influence on their availability, accuracy or completeness.

8. In-app purchases

  • Some features are offered as in-app purchases. The offer, the price and the duration are shown in the app and in the App Store or Google Play before you buy.
  • Purchases are made and paid through Apple's App Store or Google Play under their terms. Apple or Google handle payment, billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds, including any statutory right of withdrawal.
  • Recurring purchases are managed and cancelled in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel them.
  • If you reinstall the app or change devices, you can restore your purchases with “Restore Purchases” in the app, using the same Apple ID or Google account.
  • For refunds, contact Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google Play.

9. Availability and changes

I develop the app continuously and may add, change or remove features, as long as this is reasonable for you, taking your interests into account. I aim for the app to be available without interruption, but cannot guarantee it, especially for third-party services such as maps. Features you have paid for will not be removed without a valid reason; if I must remove one, I will tell you in good time and look for a fair solution together with Apple or Google.

10. Rights to the app

The app and its content are protected by copyright. You receive a simple, non-transferable right to use the app for personal purposes on your devices, within the rules of the App Store or Google Play. You may not decompile, modify or redistribute the app, except where the law expressly allows it (§§ 69d, 69e of the German Copyright Act, UrhG).

11. Liability

I am liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act and where I have given a guarantee.

For slight negligence, I am liable only if I breach an essential contractual obligation (an obligation whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose fulfilment you may regularly rely). In this case, my liability is limited to the damage typical for the contract and foreseeable.

Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded. These limitations also apply to my representatives and agents. For features provided free of charge, the statutory liability privileges apply.

12. Apple and Google

  • If you use the app on an Apple device, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. These terms are between you and me, not Apple. I, not Apple, am responsible for the app and its content, for maintenance and support, and for handling any claims relating to the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. If the app does not conform to an applicable warranty, you can notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation.
  • If you use the app on Android, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply.

13. Applicable law and disputes

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you have your habitual residence.

I am neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

14. Changes to these terms

I may change these terms for valid reasons, for example because of new features or changes in the law, as long as the change is reasonable for you. I will not treat your silence as consent. The current version is always on this page. Changes do not affect purchases you have already made.
